Delta
IV GOES-O Mission
Booklet
Rocket/Payload: Delta IV launching NASA and NOAA’s
Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-O (GOES-O)
mission. ULA will be launching GOES-O on behalf of Boeing
Launch Services. GOES-O is the second in a series of weather
detecting satellites. A Delta IV launched the GOES-N satellite
in May 2006.
Date/Launch Time/Site: June 27, with a one hour launch window
from 6:14-7:14 p.m. EDT from Space Launch Complex-37, Cape
Canaveral AFS, Fla.
Launch Notes: This is the second Delta IV launch of 2009
following the launch of the NRO’s L-26 satellite in
January. This is the eighth launch of the year for ULA and
will be the fourth for NASA following NOAA-N Prime, Kepler
and LRO/LCROSS. A Delta IV medium+ (4,2) configuration will
launch with two solid rocket motors.
Payload Description: GOES-O will provide
more accurate prediction and tracking of severe storms and
other
weather phenomena,
resulting in earlier and more precise warnings to the public.
Supporting NOAA and NASA scientists collecting and analyzing
real-time environmental data, as well as the U.S. Coast Guard
searching the open seas, GOES-O stands ready as the most
advanced multi-mission weather and Earth-observation satellite
ever built for NOAA geosynchronous operations.
Watch the Launch Online: A live simulcast
of the TV broadcast of the launch will be available on
the ULA
Web Cast page beginning at 4 p.m. EDT on launch day.
