ULA's summer intern program offers paid engineering and business positions designed to provide students with real-world work experience and exposure to life at the nation's premier space launch company. Interns are encouraged to generate and share new ideas while delivering work products that impact ULA's missions, methodologies and processes. Interns are evaluated for potential employment opportunities with ULA after graduation.

SUMMER INTERN PROGRAM SCHEDULE

All internship openings are posted in the ULA Intern Career Center. We encourage interested students to create profiles and upload their cover letters and resumes before the intern job postings open. Intern Job postings will be open from September-March.

June-August: Create a profile and upload a cover letter and resume in the ULA Intern Career Center

Tuesday following Labor Day: Intern job postings open in the ULA Intern Career Center; apply right away. While some positions will be reserved for the spring recruiting season, ULA intern positions are very competitive and will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.

September-March: ULA conducts interviews and makes offers

December-May: ULA Staffing works closely with interns to coordinate required preparations prior to their arrival

May: ULA's Summer Intern Program begins; interns report to their designated site locations for their 10-week internship

August: 10-week internships are completed and the summer intern program comes to an end

Frequently Asked Questions

• What majors does ULA consider for internship positions?

  • For engineering internship positions, ULA considers students who are working towards a B.S./M.S., primarily in aerospace, electrical and mechanical engineering as well as computer science. Additionally, ULA offers other internships to those with technical engineering and science degrees-such as industrial, physics, mathematics, materials, welding and chemistry-depending on the current needs of the company.

    On the business side, ULA offers internships in areas such as Finance, Supply Chain, Human Resources, Communications, Government Relations and Information Technology depending on the business needs. Check our Careers Center after Labor Day for the full list of summer intern opportunities.

• How many intern positions are available?

  • The size of our summer intern program varies depending on the business needs, but we generally offer approximately 100 internship positions. The majority of these are in the engineering disciplines, with the remainder in the business organizations. Returning interns are given priority placement for future summer internships to develop interns, offer broader experiences, build stronger relationships across the company and ultimately consider them for future ULA employee positions. At the end of the summer internships, ULA gives all interns equal consideration concerning development opportunities and hiring decisions.

• Where are the internships located?

  • ULA provides internship opportunities at all locations including:

  • Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, Florida
  • Decatur, Alabama
  • Denver, Colorado
  • Pueblo, Colorado
  • Vandenberg Space Force Base, California
  • Washington, D.C.

• What are the minimum requirements for acceptance into the Summer Intern Program?

  • To be considered for a ULA internship, a student must meet the following requirements:

  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.90 or higher on a 4.00 scale at the time of a job offer
  • Be a U.S. Person (generally defined as a U.S. citizen or resident who has a permanent legal right to work in the United States); ULA does not offer Student F-1 or Work H-1B visa sponsorships
  • Have completed at least his/her sophomore year in college and plan to return to school in the fall after completing their internship
  • Ability to complete a 10-week internship program
  • Have access to motorized transportation (most ULA facilities)

• What kinds of things would I do as an intern?

  • At the beginning of the internships, managers meet with their interns to provide business goals and objectives that support their respective organizations.

  • In Engineering, interns have opportunities to support design, production, assembly, test and launch operation activities in support of current and future missions. Examples include new design activities and various types of analysis including:

  • Trajectory and vehicle performance
  • Control dynamics
  • Modeling and software simulation
  • Mission management and integration
  • Contamination control
  • Electromagnetic interference analysis
  • Quality assurance and system safety

  • Business interns may work in areas throughout ULA, including:

  • Contracts
  • Financial planning and forecasting
  • Financial analysis
  • Human Resources
  • Subcontract Management and Procurement
  • Auditing
  • Creative Services
  • Communications
  • Government relations
  • Information technology

• What are the typical working hours?

  • Most ULA employees have a 9/80 work schedule, which means they work nine hours a day Monday through Thursday, eight hours for the "on" Friday, and enjoy a day off every other Friday. Interns are paid hourly wages for actual time worked. All overtime hours must be directed and preapproved by the intern's manager. Some sites may have a different work schedule, which will be communicated to the intern during the offer process.

• Are housing and transportation assistance provided?

  • If the intern's permanent home and campus addresses both are more than 50 miles away from the assigned location, ULA may provide a one-time housing/transportation allowance, which is communicated at the time of the offer. The housing/transportation allowance is intended to defray startup housing costs such as deposits on lodging and utilities and other basic housing and transportation expenses. The housing/transportation allowance is processed during the first two weeks the intern begins his/her assignment and is taxable earnings for the summer intern.
